The Faith Academy of Marble Falls football team scorched Barksdale Nueces Canyon 68-19 Sept. 20.
The contest was called in the fourth quarter after the Flames (2-2) enacted the mercy rule for their first road win of the season.
Head coach Jay Silvers said what paved the offensive way was how the Flames got their ground attack going.
“Our running game broke wide open in the second half,” he said. “We primarily focused on the run. We had the right blocks with what they were giving us.”
Faith leaned on its three-headed monster to get the offense flowing.
Senior Carter Fromberg had 19 rushes for 141 yards and three touchdowns and completed 8 of 18 passes for two touchdowns and an interception. Junior Drew Houy completed 6 of 7 passes for three touchdowns and an interception and had two rushes for 51 yards and a score.
“Those two benefitted from (the strong rushing attack),” Silvers said. “Fromberg did a lot of damage passing and running. (The unit) did a good job of getting blocks and getting people out of the way.”
Freshman Landon Silvers caught five passes for 189 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, the Flames did what it had to do to ensure the Panthers (0-4) couldn’t find an offensive rhythm. The scoring plays came when Faith wasn’t vocal about who was responsible for whom.
“They made us pay for those miscommunications,” Silvers said. “(Junior running back Eli) Burchett is a handful to bring down. We shut down everything they could do. (Our defense) really did a solid job — I was happy with what I saw. When they got a first down here and there, they couldn’t capitalize.”
Faith welcomes Bulverde Gloria Deo at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27, to Britton Field for its homecoming game.
